West Physics was recently selected to perform the x-ray shielding integrity testing for all of the radiology rooms at the brand new Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi. Located on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi is a unique and unparalleled extension of the United States-based Cleveland Clinic. It boasts five major centers of excellence and more than 30 medical and surgical specialties, with North American board certified (or equivalent) physicians dedicated to putting patients first.
West Physics is honored to assist the Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi with ensuring that patients, workers and visitors are properly protected from ionizing radiation; through the expert design of the facility’s lead shielding. “We are truly honored to be the global medical physics company selected to help design this prestigious one-of-a-kind facility,” stated Dr. W. Geoffrey West, Ph.D., DABR, CHP, President and Chief Medical Physicist of West Physics. Continued Dr. West: “We are excited to begin the offering of our services in the United Arab Emirates, and eventually its GCC neighbors, with this unique project.”
The Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi is an engineering marvel, predicted to be one of the most ambitious and expensive single hospital builds in history. The hospital is planned to have 364 beds (expandable to 490), five clinical floors, three diagnostic and treatment levels, and thirteen floors of inpatient units for critical and acute patients. The amenities are completely state-of-the-art, as is the standard of care in this physician-led hospital.
